VirtualDJ 2018: video visuals, live broadcasting and scratch DNA

Released 19 June 2018 (build 4444). Sixteen builds followed, to September 2019. Before VirtualDJ 2023, this series has one post per major release, covering the builds that followed it.

What changed

  • Show your mix on big screens in a way that entertains, not just the audio.
  • Thousands of ShaderToy shaders to visualise audio tracks.
  • Broadcast your mixes live to major social platforms.
  • Scratch DNA: write scratches as a sequence and automate them.

For your library

A busy period for your library:

  • Better automatic correction of playlists when a drive letter changes.
  • A new Backup Database option, later extended to include pads, mappers and filter folders.
  • Faster database loading on Windows.
  • Fixes for virtual folders not showing their content or sub-folders.

The drive-letter correction is VirtualDJ fixing some broken paths itself, for playlists, when only the letter changed. Anything more (a renamed folder, a new drive, files that moved) still breaks, and still needs repairing.
