Before you repair anything, take a backup. Not because something is likely to go wrong — but because it costs you almost nothing, and it means every other decision in a repair session becomes reversible.

What a backup does #

Running a backup creates a single zip file containing your VirtualDJ databases, folders, playlists, and history exactly as they are right now. It doesn’t change anything in VirtualDJ itself — it just gives you a known-good point to come back to.

Why it should be routine, not an emergency measure #

It’s tempting to think of backups as something you reach for only after something’s gone wrong. Treat it the other way round: a backup is what makes a repair session feel low-risk in the first place. Once you know you can restore in a couple of clicks, reviewing and importing workbook changes stops feeling like a one-way door.

The safety net in practice #

If an import ever goes wrong — a proposed path turns out to be incorrect, or a batch of changes doesn’t look right once it’s live — Restore brings your library back to the state it was in at backup time. You can then correct the workbook and try the import again, properly.
