Released 24 June 2016 (build 3286). About 30 builds followed, up to VirtualDJ 2018 in June 2018. Before VirtualDJ 2023, this series has one post per major release, covering the builds that followed it.
What changed
- Redesigned to be more controller-centric, with a new pad section.
- An improved audio engine and BPM analysis.
- Faster video through better use of hardware acceleration.
- Ask the DJ, and continued focus on stability.
For your library
The builds in this period show how VirtualDJ handles drives that come and go:
- On the Mac, removable drives can be connected and disconnected while VirtualDJ runs.
- Fixes removing a drive on the Mac closing all external databases instead of just that drive’s.
- A new
duplicatesfilter word for filter folders. - A warning when the database can’t be opened.
- Traktor playlist support.
Note the “external databases”: VirtualDJ keeps a separate database on each drive that holds music, as well as the one in your home folder. When a drive’s letter or name changes, every path in that drive’s database can break at once, which is why VDJTools works across all of them.
