# Verify

`/verify` compares two VirtualDJ XML files record by record and shows you exactly what’s different between them. It’s a standalone tool: you can use it any time, not just as part of a repair.

## When you’d use it

Any time you want to see what actually changed, rather than take it on trust. For example:

- **After a repair.** Compare the database from your pre-repair backup with your current one to see every path that was fixed.
- **Before a restore.** Compare a backup with your current files to see what restoring it would change.
- **Across two machines.** Compare the database on your home setup with the one on your gig laptop to spot tracks that differ.

## What it shows you

Records that match are left out, so you only see the differences: entries that exist in one file but not the other, and entries whose details don’t match.

## Running it

Type `/verify /help` to see the options and how to point it at the two files you want to compare.

`/verify` only reads the two files. It never changes either of them.
