# Understanding Status

Every row in your workbook has a **Status**. It tells you, at a glance, where that track is in its repair: still missing, found by VDJTools, waiting for you, ready to go, or already done.

It also means you never have to fix your library in one sitting. Work through a few hundred rows tonight, stop, and pick up tomorrow exactly where you left off. Nothing you’ve already applied gets done twice.

## What the Status column is for

Think of it as a progress tracker for each track. You choose a status from the dropdown in the Status column, and VDJTools updates it as each stage runs. It answers four questions for every row:

- What did VDJTools find on its own?
- What still needs your decision?
- What’s been checked and is ready to apply?
- What’s already been written back to VirtualDJ?

## The statuses at a glance

| Status | What it means | What you do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Not Found** | The file path is broken and no new location is known yet. | Nothing yet. Let AutoFix have a go, or enter the new path yourself. |
| **Possible** | VDJTools found a likely match, but it isn’t sure enough to use it without asking. | Check it. Confirm it as **Match**, or reject it as **Mismatch**. |
| **Autofix** | VDJTools found the file’s new location on its own. | Nothing. You can spot-check it if you like. |
| **CrossRef** | VDJTools worked out the new path from a repair you’ve already confirmed elsewhere in your library. | Nothing. It’s built on a fix you’ve already made. |
| **Match** | You’ve confirmed the path yourself, either by accepting a suggestion or typing in the new location. | Nothing. It’s ready for Validate. |
| **Mismatch** | You’ve marked a suggestion as wrong. The row is parked so it can’t be applied by accident. | When you’re ready: type in the right path and set the row to **Match**, set it back to **Not Found**, or mark it **Delete**. |
| **Delete** | You want this broken entry removed from VirtualDJ, for example a track you no longer have. | Nothing. It’s removed on import. Your music files are never touched. Deleting only applies to the Database worksheet: on folders, playlists and history, import skips Delete rows and says so. |
| **Keep** | You’ve decided to leave this row as it is, for example a file that’s gone for good but whose entry you want to keep. | Nothing. Every stage skips it. If the file is still missing after a later export, the row comes back as **Not Found** and you set Keep again. |
| **Validated** | VDJTools has checked the file really exists at the new path. | Nothing. It’s ready to import. |
| **Imported** | The fix has been written back to VirtualDJ. | Nothing. It’s done and won’t be applied again. |

## A typical repair journey

Most rows follow the same path, from **Not Found** to **Imported**:

1. **Export** lists every broken path in the workbook, marked **Not Found**.
2. **AutoFix** and **CrossRef** go looking. Confident finds become **Autofix** or **CrossRef**. Less certain ones become **Possible**.
3. **You review.** Confirm or type in a path (**Match**), reject a wrong suggestion (**Mismatch**), mark a row for removal (**Delete**), leave it as it is (**Keep**), or reset it to **Not Found**.
4. **Validate** checks each file really exists where the row says it is. It checks Autofix, CrossRef and Match rows, and Not Found rows where you’ve typed a new path. Rows whose file is there become **Validated**. Rows whose file isn’t go back to **Not Found**, with your path kept, and validate lists them.
5. **Import** writes the validated fixes, and any database deletions, back into VirtualDJ. Those rows become **Imported**.

## What needs your attention

Only three statuses are waiting on you. VDJTools leaves them alone until you decide:

- **Possible**: we found a likely match. Please confirm it.
- **Mismatch**: marked as wrong. It won’t be processed until you update it. Once you’ve typed in the right path, set it to **Match**.
- **Not Found**: still missing. Try AutoFix again, or enter the path yourself.

Everything else either moves forward on its own or is already done. Filter the Status column to these three and you’ve got your to-do list.

## Why it’s safe to stop and come back

- **Imported rows are finished.** Later runs skip them, so a fix is never applied twice.
- **Parked rows stay parked.** Possible, Mismatch and Keep rows wait for you, however many times you run Validate and Import.
- **Import as you go.** Validate and import the rows you’re happy with now. Leave the tricky ones for another night.

And if a track you’ve already fixed breaks again later, say you move that folder to a new drive, it isn’t forgotten. Your next export picks it up as a fresh **Not Found** row, and you repair it like any other.

## A quick example

A drive letter changed and 400 tracks went missing. AutoFix confidently relocates 380 of them, and 15 come back as **Possible**. The other 5 stay **Not Found**.

You validate and import the 380 straight away. They’re **Imported** and back in your library. Over the next couple of evenings you work through the 15 Possibles: 12 are right, 3 aren’t. You type in the correct paths for those and set them to **Match**, find 4 of the 5 by hand, and mark the last one **Delete** because you no longer have it. One more validate and import, and every row reads **Imported**. The 380 from the first night were never touched again.
