# Close VirtualDJ before importing or restoring

Close VirtualDJ before importing or restoring. VirtualDJ can overwrite changes made while it’s open.

Import and restore are the only steps that write VirtualDJ’s files, and VirtualDJ can save over changes made while it’s open. So VDJTools checks first, and stops without changing anything.

## What to do

Close VirtualDJ, then run the same command again.

Everything else, from the Healthcheck to export, AutoFix, CrossRef and validate, runs fine with VirtualDJ open.
